Gee Whiz I Might Live Forever! A Happier, Healthier Me in 2015

First of all Happy New Year!

I know I am a little late with that but it needs to be said anyway. I hope your year has started off as good as mine!

Since I am not a big fan of the cold and snow I have been way too under active so far this year and I am realizing just how much writing this blog last year motivated me to stay focused.

So I might write some more.

You may recall in A Happier, Healthier Me ? Week 27 from last year during my physical, my primary care doc, Dr. Thomas Mancini advised me to keep my heart under 130 bpm during exercise because it seems: there may be a point at which exertion can become dangerous, especially for middle aged men who, because of gender and changes that accompany aging, are more susceptible to cardiac arrest caused by vigorous exercise.

Recently I heard on WTOP, a Washington DC news radio station, about a new study that was done in Denmark and published earlier this month in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, that found that fast-paced joggers were as likely to die as those who didn?t jog at all and those slower paced runners had significantly lower mortality rates.

Seems I might be on to something with my eleven-ish minute miles. At that pace I might live forever!

That is as long as I can back away from the table and get my butt back out in the cold to at least do that a few times a week. I am on it!

Here is a link to the WTOP story.

There has been a lot going on so far in 2015 and much more to come.

If you missed our first ?Partner Manual Therapy Clinic? where you were taught some massage techniques you could do at home, held at the Sport and Spine Rehab of Rockville last week, you missed a good one. The room was packed! Look for more of those coming to a location near you!

And coming up on March 4th at Sport and Spine Rehab of Columbia is a ?Mobility Clinic? where you can learn how the proper use of foam rollers can help you if you are a runner or active otherwise.

And at the Sport and Spine Rehab of Fairfax clinic you can attend ?Your Health During Pregnancy? on March 10th.

Sport and Spine Rehab of McLean is offering yoga classes this year with a really cool Yoga for Runners class that incorporates yoga, massage, and rehab techniques.

And if you recall I mentioned late last year SSR was continuing its relationship with Potomac River Running and their Elite Race Team in 2015. We had a great Kick Off event at the Sport and Spine Rehab of Sterling clinic last month. This year look for a Trail Run Series sponsored by SSR and a handful of SSR sponsored road races too including the Lucky Leprechaun 5K on March 14th at the Reston Town Center.

By the way the Trail Run series is free to register and the first one is April 4th at Algonkian Park in Sterling.

And the discounted registration for the ?Lucky Leprechaun 5K? ends today so don?t wait!

So ?Like? the Facebook page, pay attention to the SSR website and keep up with all that is happening in our world in 2015!

And hey if you are eleven-ish minute miler too I will save you a spot on the park bench!

Remember to check with your physician about your exercise program!

So stay warm and remember, as I finish writing this we are 29 days, 7 hours, 24 minutes, and 48 seconds away from the first day of Spring! Not that I care about that?..

Have a great weekend!
