What does a Chiropractor Do?

A chiropractor or doctor of chiropractic is a trained, licensed medical professional. A chiropractor uses natural and holistic forms of treatments. These treatments include manual adjustments, dry needling, cupping, soft tissue work and more. A chiropractor helps relieve musculoskeletal pain in the back, neck, shoulder, knee, hip, or other areas of the body.

What is a Chiropractic appointment like?

At your first appointment, a chiropractor will give you a full evaluation. They will go over your medical history and any concerns. Then they will create an individualized treatment plan specifically designed for you.

The treatment plan will be custom to your body and type or injury/pain. This will allow for the safest form of treatment and most effective results.

The chiropractor will then perform a series of treatments. This can include manual adjustments, soft tissue work, dry needling, or cupping. These treatments aim to to treat your injury and surrounding muscles and tissue. The chiropractor may also guide you through and prescribe rehabilitative exercises. These are designed to strengthen the muscles and surrounding areas.

How does a Chiropractor Use Rehabilitative Exercises?

It is important to use a combination of chiropractic treatment and rehabilitative exercise. This method gives the best results and successful outcomes for patients. It helps with back pain, neck pain and other joint or muscle pain.

Using a combination of chiropractic treatment and rehabilitative exercise will not only provide pain relief but will allow a patient to sustain their results. The goal of including rehabilitative exercises into a treatment plan is to improve the strength, flexibility and mobility of the muscles associated with and surrounding the areas of pain. This helps prevent further injury or recurring injury from happening again. The goal is to always find the root cause of the issue, but not only identifying it, but working to correct it.

Chiropractic Questions? We’ve got answers..

01. How much does a chiropractor cost?

The cost of chiropractic treatment ranges. Kaizo Health in Fort Washington accepts major insurances, personal injury and worker’s compensation claims. We will bill your health insurance and process the claims for you. You are responsible for paying your deductible or co-insurance if applicable.

Kaizo Health also offer affordable medical self-pay plans. These are great if you do not have insurance or your insurance is not in-network. Chirohealth USA allows you to enroll yourself and anyone that lives in your household for $49 for one year. The heavily discounted, first appointment includes a full exam, medical history overview, treatment, adjustments and rehab. All follow ups are capped at a discounted price. This is a great way to ensure that you and your family are getting the care you need at an affordable rate.

We also offer interest-free, no-minimum payment plans for any remaining balances.

02. Can I crack my own back or neck?

The short answer is “yes” and “no”. First let’s understand what causes the “cracking” sound. Spinal bones are connected by a right sided and left sided joint. The “cracking sound is caused by the formation of a gas bubble inside the spinal joints when the two joint surfaces of spinal bones are separated. So, if you are performing a stretch or movement that allows for gapping of the spinal joints enough where the gas bubble can be formed, you will hear the “cracking” sound.

HOWEVER, the difference between “self-cracking” and having a licensed, qualified Doctor of Chiropractic performing an adjustment is that when you are “self-cracking”, the joint surfaces that are separating are already moving well, and possibly could even be hypermobile, or moving beyond their appropriate normal range of motion. They become hypermobile to compensate for joints that are stuck, fixated or not moving through its full range.

Doctors of Chiropractic address the fixated joints as typically fixated joints cause stiffness and pain. So, “self-cracking” feels good temporarily, but patients feel like they need to do it over and over and over again because they cannot address the fixated joint, so symptoms come back. So anyone can potentially “self-crack”, but if patients want long lasting relief, have a qualified Doctor of Chiropractic address and adjust the fixated joints, and prescribe appropriate exercises, is going to provide a much more effective, and long-lasting solution.

03. How often do I need to see a chiropractor?

Most people start off seeing the chiropractor once or twice a week. Each individualized treatment plan is created based on the patient. The exact number of treatments might differ depending on the severity of pain or injury.

Treatments will decrease once a patient starts to see progress in their symptoms. Once a patient has completed all treatment appointments, they will receive another evaluation. If the chiropractor believes the patient is better, they will discharge the patient.

Sometimes a patient will need to come in for follow up treatment for their back or neck pain. But our goal is always to provide pain-relief for the long haul and not have to see our patients again!

04. What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is when a chiropractor uses their hands or a small instrument to apply pressure to a joint in the body. This can be on the neck, back, shoulder, knee, or almost any other part of the body.

Chiropractic adjustments can restore movement and mobility to the joint. It can also improve your body’s overall physical function. An adjustment realigns your body back to its natural form. This can improve blood and oxygen flow.

05. Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

Chiropractic adjustments and treatments are safe, natural, effective forms of treatment. They treat various musculoskeletal pains and injury.

06. Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

For most patients, chiropractic adjustments are painless. Many people report that they feel good following treatment. They describe a feeling of relief from the pain or tension.

Patients new to chiropractic treatments, may stiffen or resist the adjustment. This can cause them to feel a small amount of discomfort. Once relax, they should not feel this discomfort during their adjustment.

Patients suffering from an injury or inflammation may feel discomfort during various treatments. This is completely normal as it is part of the healing process. The discomfort or soreness should be mild and only felt for a short duration of time. Most patients report feeling relief and improved mobility following their treatments.

07. Should you see a chiropractor for back pain?

Back pain is one of the most common types of pain people suffer from. One of the best forms of treatment for back pain is chiropractic treatment. Our Fort Washington Chiropractors are experts in treating upper and lower back pain. They also treat neck pain, and many other spine-related conditions.
