Nocturnal or night-time cramps and spasms are involuntary and painful contractions of muscles usually involving the thigh, calf or foot muscles. A definition of nocturnal or night-time cramps and spasms has been proposed by American Academy of Sleep Medicine International Classification of Sleep Disorders to include the following criteria:[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”15″][fancy-ul icon_type=”font_icon” icon=”icon-ok” color=”Accent-Color” alignment=”left”]

  • A painful sensation in the leg or foot associated with sudden, involuntary muscle hardness or tightness, indicating a strong muscle contraction.
  • The painful muscle contractions occur during the time in bed, although they may arise from either wakefulness or sleep.
  • The pain is relieved by forceful stretching of the affected muscles, thus releasing the contraction.

  • Visit SSR 3 times, for an hour each time, over 4 weeks
  • Complete questionnaires about your health during each of these visits
  • Keep a log of your night-time cramps for 4 weeks
