How Can Veterans Access Chiropractic Care?

If you are suffering from pain in the back, neck, shoulder, hip or knee chiropractic care can be very helpful. Chiropractic treatment offers natural solutions to your pain by addressing the root cause. Chiropractors use a variety of different treatments, including rehabilitative exercises, to treat the area of injury or pain and surrounding muscles and tissues.

Chiropractic care is important because it can help reduce the number of veterans who are reliant upon pain medication or opioids. Veterans can quickly become dependent upon these medications which can lead to drug-dependency issues.

If you are a veteran, you are may be eligible to receive chiropractic care through the VA OR have them refer you to an external clinic nearby like the ones at Kaizo Health.

Why Is Chiropractic Care Beneficial for Veterans?

Chiropractic care is extremely helpful in treating musculoskeletal injuries. Many veterans suffer from back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain or other pain associated with injuries or overuse.

Chiropractors can treat a variety of conditions. They can help provide relief for new or old injuries. The sooner you seek treatment for an injury, the easier it is to help relieve the pain. It also helps maintain the surrounding areas of the body.

If you have an old injury or are waiting to seek treatment, surrounding areas of the body can begin to compensate for the injured area. This can cause more pain and injury.

Chiropractors use natural-based treatments, such as joint manipulations, dry needling, cupping, soft tissue work and rehabilitative exercises to relieve pain and restore the body to its optimal state.

Chiropractic care can also be helpful for mental health issues. Chiropractic adjustments release hormones that can trigger and restore positive function in the nervous system.

In addition, because chiropractic treatments are non-invasive, there are much fewer side effects related to treatment. Chiropractic treatments work to address the root cause of the issue. They help provide pain relief for the long-term.

Patriot Project

Many chiropractors participate in the Patriot Project. The Patriot Project works to make chiropractic care readily available to service members. They strive to help reduce the number of veterans dependent upon opioid and pharmaceutical medications for pain-relief.

Kaizo Health Supports Our Veterans

At Kaizo Health, we are proud to support all of our active military and veterans. We are proud to work with our local VA to help veterans receive the chiropractic treatment they need.

Dr. Alan Huffman, DC, our clinic director of our Landover, MD location, is a veteran himself. We say thank you to Dr. Huffman for his service to our country and also our patients at Kaizo Health.

We spoke with Dr. Huffman regarding his military background and why he decided to pursue becoming a chiropractor following his time in the service.

“When I left the Air Force Medical Corps, I decided to shift my career from EMT/combat medicine to rehabilitation and become a physical therapist. I decided chiropractic allowed me to care for my patients more completely. Chiropractors are trained not only to read x-rays, but to take them as well. Physical therapists were not trained in this service at the time.”

We also asked how chiropractic care can be beneficial for veterans:

“Chiropractic provides more thorough treatment for spinal related pain. It seeks to restore normal motion in the spine thus relieving pain more effectively. I’ve lived with chronic low back pain since 1983. I’ll say from experience that spinal manipulation provides better pain relief than just treating soft tissue dysfunction.”
