Back & Neck Pain
Get Started with Kaizo
That twinge in your back just won’t go away. It’s not that bad right now but it’s definitely there and it’s not getting any better. Several thoughts are running through your head: “Will it just go away?” “Can I afford treatment?”
A lot of patients we see and people we know do not realize there is a solution to neck pain. This solution is recommended by most major health care organizations; however, no physicians talk about it.
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body and branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. The sciatic nerve’s purpose is to provide a vital role in connecting the spinal cord with the skin and muscles of the thigh, leg, and foot.
Many people struggle with tight hips and groins. Apart from the fact that people don’t stretch enough, we as a population spend most of our day sitting down either at work, in the car, in front of a tv, etc. In this position, our groin/inner thigh muscles are in a contracted state..
Unfortunately, 100 million Americans have chronic pain, with knee pain being second on the list of top causes. One third of all Americans say they’ve experienced knee pain at some point in their life.
At Kaizo Health, we continuously work with a variety of different types of people and injuries. As you may know, we are the leading experts in auto accident injuries. But did you know that we are also experts in sports-related injuries, such as hamstring injuries?
The cause of this condition is not fully understood, but it is more commonly found in females and overweight people. When both feet are involved, this is sometimes associated with a certain type of arthritis, which can be evaluated with a simple exam and tests by your doctor.
A tree is only as strong as its roots, how strong are YOUR roots Building a strong and stable body starts with our ankles. Like a tree with shallow roots, weak ankles don’t give the rest of our body a great chance for success.
Whether the shoulder spontaneously relocates or it needs to be relocated by a physician, there needs to be a rehabilitation program strictly adhered to by the patient.
When you hear the term “whiplash” what do you think? Do you think seat belt injury or car accident injury? Or do you just consider whiplash an unfortunate side effect of most auto accidents.
According to the Migraine Research Foundation, there are approximately 45 million Americans complaining of headaches each year. That works out to about one in every six people or 16.54% of the population.
Not many things garner a bigger reputation with more uncertainty than migraines. Patients worldwide get misleading information that their bad headache is a migraine with no obvious treatment or help other than bearing with it until it goes away later.
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. A joint is a connection between bones, so this joint connects the mandible (lower jaw) to the temporal bone (side of the skull). To feel this joint in motion, put your fingers in front of your ear and move your jaw around.
From a simple strain or sprain to post-surgery rehabilitation, Kaizo Health takes all conditions seriously. We not only want to get you out of pain, but we also want you to stay out of pain. Our doctors perform a thorough examination at the beginning of your care to assess and treat your body as a whole.
Brugger is that funny exercise we always seem to make you do at the beginning of your visit. We show you a cool way to wrap your hands into a band (which everyone thinks is some sort of puzzle they deserve a prize for), then make you stretch it out and hold it for what seems like forever.
The NormaTec is a compression device that speeds up recovery and improves outcomes. We use the NormaTec on legs, arms, or hips to rejuvenate muscle tissue and reduce tightness and soreness.
The Hypervolt is a cordless state-of-the-art vibration massage device that helps relax sore and stiff muscles to improve mobility.
Prenatal/Postnatal Chiropractic Care
Pain can play a significant role during pregnancy but this doesn’t always have to be the case. Studies have found that 75% of prenatal chiropractic patients experienced significant pain relief after treatment!
If you thought Kaizo Health was only about chiropractic care, think again. If you know anything about us, you know how much we believe in the importance of combining chiropractic treatments and rehabilitative exercises for the most optimal and efficient care.
This type of therapy uses suction cups to create negative pressure within the tissue to increase circulation, decrease local sensitivity and encourage healing in the area of concern or pain.
Dry needling is a natural form of treatment that uses a fine filament needle that is inserted into a trigger point or sensitive area, typically associated with areas of pain. When the needle is inserted into the trigger point, it produces a twitch-like effect in the muscle fibers, drawing blood into the area to release tension.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), often called Scraping, is a very popular and effective treatment technique for all types of muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries.
Electronic Stimulation | TENS (E-Stim)
Electrical Stimulation (you may hear your doctor refer to it as E-Stim or just Stim) is used to reduce pain, muscle spasm, and promote healing. Electrodes are placed on the body in various places to target specific muscle and nerve fibers.
Kinesio-Taping Method involves utilizing a special elastic-like tape over and around muscles and/or joints in order to assist and give support to affected tissues as well as to prevent over-contraction.
Active Release Therapy | ART
Active release technique treats pain and other symptoms involving the muscles, ligaments and tendons, fascia and nerves. This technique uses manual hand work and movement of the patient to apply tension on scar tissue and break up adhesions.

Safe Pain Relief: Clinic Locations
I’m extremely specific with my chiropractic/therapy choices- but I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Sheldon & the team. They have been great! I was a college athlete, so I came with lots of lingering pains/injuries. Dr. Sheldon is a great chiropractor- he’s able to get a solid adjustment on me every day & the team is always willing to talk through my concerns & work to find exercises that work for me. I highly recommend Kaizo!

The best and most effective chiropractor practice I have had the pleasure to visit. I suffered from chronic lower back pain since 2003. I visited countless practices in two different continents, even tried acupuncture. Nothing really worked in the long run. At Kaizo Health in Fort Washington, they tackled my problem from a completely different perspective by merging physical therapy exercises with body manipulation.
Now, after three months, I am pain free and getting my discharge from treatment. Their team of therapists are wonderful and made my journey to being pain free easier to reach. I recommend their services without any reservation.

Dr. Huffman and staff are amazing! I came in with a lot of pain with limited mobility of my neck and back and now I feel like I’m walking on air. I thank Doc and staff for helping me get back to full recovery. They are professional and make you feel like family. If you’re looking for a physical therapist/Chiropractor, I definitely recommend you go see Dr. Huffman and staff at the Landover location!

I went Kazio Health because of my back and hip pain related to pregnancy. I felt fantastic even after my first visit. Dr. Gilmour and all of the staff are so helpful, friendly and professional! I am so sorry that I didn’t find them for my first pregnancy! I will be back as soon as possible for postpartum care.

Hi All! I’ve been a patient at Kazio health for about 4 weeks now and I am just so happy I found this place. I am receiving treatment for injuries from a car accident and they tackle the concerns from multiple angles. Dr. Gilmour is the chiropractor. You will see her buzzing around, working with clients, changing exercises, making sure they’re being done correctly and still when you are being seen with her, she is completely focused on you and your treatment.
They provide a bevy of services… cupping, dry needling, E-STIM, and physical therapy. The CAs are awesome, knowledgeable and friendly. I’m so glad I found them. Huge bonus, parking is EXTREMELY EASY. Don’t shy away bc it’s in downtown FFX.
Monica | Kaizo Health of Fairfax
I walked into Kaizo Health with chronic back and neck pain that was interfering with my ability to work and get restful sleep. Dr. Sheldon and his team wasted no time in coming up with a treatment plan to start helping me feel better. I have been working with Matt during my sessions for some time now and I already notice a positive difference in the pain I experience daily. I went from being chronically fatigued and achy to having more stamina when I work. Welcoming, professional and convenient service.

Friendly, fun, attentive and always on time. I am a returning customer from years back, so this alone explains itself. I would refer this office over and over again. Thank you team KAIZO for a job well done. I want to say a special thanks to Dr. Berch and Dr. Kevin.

What’s Hot on the News
One of the most common questions our doctors routinely get asked is, “what kind of mattress or pillow should I buy?” Or, “what is the best office chair for my back?” Unfortunately, there isn’t a one-size fits all answer. Our doctors do not typically recommend one...
Today we’re going to look at our rehabilitative program, Rehab 360, which uses progressive foundational movements to decrease movement intolerances and reduce pain. This program isn’t just about reducing symptoms. It’s about putting in the work and training your body to correct the intolerance so that you can not only be pain-free for now, but pain-free for the long-term!
