SSR Participates in the Inova Charity Event

Under the slogan of ?Give Blood, Play Hockey,? Inova Blood Donor Services held its fourth annual Charity Hockey Classic fundraiser at the Kettler Complex Ice Rink in Arlington, VA on September 9, 2012 and Sport and Spine was there to treat the players. Sport and Spine Rehab’s Dr. Jay Greenstein, Dr. Matt Clay, Dr. Riccardo Tersigni, Dr. Allen Huffman and Dr. Gelareh Naenifard were the team doctors for the four teams playing in the tournament.

The host of this event was also the beneficiary. Inova Blood Donor Services, a service line to the not-for-profit Inova Health System. Inova Blood Donor Services collects, tests and provides blood and blood products each day to fifteen hospitals and medical centers throughout the Washington, D.C. metro area. In 2011, the event raised over $65,000 and the goal for 2012 has been set to raise $90,000; which is needed to refurbish one of Inova?s older bloodmobiles.

The tournament was a great way to bring together fans of all ages and support a wonderful cause while having fun. A lot of the enthusiam centered around The Washington Capitals Alumni, as it was their first appearance in the tournament. They faced off against three local teams including two-time defending champion Virginia Coaching Cardinals.

The Washington Capitals Alumni competed round-robin style against Booz Allen, Minutemen, Northern Virginia Law Enforcers and Coaching Cardinals.

Other attractions and game entertainment included a silent auction, local celebrity appearances by radio personalities Mike O?Meara, Oscar Santana, Buzz Burbank and Robb Spewak from The Mike O?Meara Show, a Capital?s mascot slap-shot and the Red Rockers spirit team. There were intermission games featuring Mini-Mites youth hockey and the popular “Chuck-a-Duck” promotion.
