Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit organization that uses running to help those experiencing homelessness change the way they see themselves so they can make real change in their lives that results in employment and independent living.?The organization?s mission is not to create runners within the homeless population, but to use running to create self-sufficiency in the lives of those experiencing homelessness. The program?s success is measured by how many Members achieve independence through employment and housing. With dedication and hard work, their homeless members earn the opportunity to create a new life for themselves through the disciplines of running. Members experience the personal transformation that ??leads to access to training, employment and housing resources. Through community and corporate support, the program strives to change the perception of homelessness.
Sport and Spine Rehab supports Back on My Feet by providing injury prevention and treatment throughout the year for participating members and by supporting BoMF fund raising efforts like Sneaker Week.
In addition to Dr. Jay, SSR was represented at the event by Dr. Bart Bishop, Peg Frazier, Ash? Leigh Gunn, Jessica Polcyn, Curt Christiansen and their guests. Again this year Dr. Jay emceed the paddle auction with amazing results expected to exceed $70,000 with corporate matching funds.
Back on My Feet DC alumnus Sam S. delivered a moving testimonial of his experience and how running and the BoMF program transformed his life resulting in a standing ovation from the attendees.
