What is a Pedorthist?
Pedorthics is the design, manufacture, modification and/or fit of footwear, including shoes, orthotics and foot devices, to prevent or alleviate foot problems caused by disease, congenital defect, overuse or injuries.? Therefore a Pedorthist is certified to practice Pedorthics!
This month is Foot Health Awareness Month.
I will bet you didn?t know what a Pedorthist was either.
I have always joked, if I had met my wife?s feet before I met the rest of her, things may have been very different.
Man, my wife has got some ugly feet.
She tries to dress them up from time to time by going and getting these pedicures.? I guess that helps a little but I?m not buying it, I know what is really lurking down there.
My whole family has some interesting feet.
Savannah?s are little tiny thick ones.
Cameron?s are little tiny thick ones too, almost the size of Savannah?s, but then he is not even four years old.
Hayley has little skinny ones.
Alexa has those little tiny ones too, not too skinny, not too thick, but at her size she doesn?t need too big of a platform.
My feet, on the other hand, are perfect.
Did you know that your foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, more than 100 tendons, muscles, and ligaments, and a whopping 250,000 sweat glands?
I am thinking that Hayley and Savannah may have gotten more sweat glands than that, but I don?t really know that for a fact?. Just sayin?.
I don?t think too much about my feet unless I have something going on like the Plantar Fasciitis I had a few years ago that stopped me from running that year.? ?And I have learned there are a lots of other things that can go wrong with your feet and there are lots of things you can do to help your feet as well; and I didn?t know what a pedorthist was until I actually met one.
The most passionate guy I have ever met with an interest in feet is a guy named Chris Gracey.? Chris is a Physical Therapist, and the owner of a company called Graceyfeet, and Chris is also a Pedorthist.? Chris makes custom orthotics for the rich and famous and for the regular folk too.? Chris?s orthotics are made from the same carbon fiber materials they make Formula One race cars out of and Kevlar, the material they use in body armor.? And they look really cool too!? And if you have thirty minutes to kill one evening, check out this episode of ?Living Healthy?, our local cable TV show, and listen to Chris? interesting story:
And please check out his website:? http://www.graceyfeet.com/
Okay so now that I have put my entire family?s feet out there, this should be an interesting weekend for me.
Remember next weekend is the Long Branch Half Marathon which I will be running to benefit Move For Hunger on the MFH Race Team.? You can still make a donation on my behalf for Move For Hunger at this link:? http://www.crowdrise.com/teammoveforhungernew/fundraiser/curtischristiansen.
And I also want to give a shout out to our SSR friend Mei who is running the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in DC, which is also next weekend, as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society?s (LLS) Team In Training.? Good Running Mei and thanks for raising money to help fight cancer!
Thanks and have a great weekend!
