Due to the growth of Sport and Spine Rehab research programs, we formed the Sport and Spine Rehab Clinical Research Foundation (SSRCRF), a 501-c3 dedicated to high quality, clinical research. SSRCRF helps us better fulfill our mission of providing the best evidence-based care to our patients.

?The goal of the Clinical Research Foundation is to lead and not follow. We don?t just want to read the research, but create practice-changing studies,? said Dr. Bishop of the Sport and Spine Rehab Clinical Research Foundation and Chief Clinical Officer of Sport and Spine Rehab.

Examples of the Work the Sport & Spine Rehab Clinical Research Foundation Performs

  1. Kinesio Tape research conducted at the Sport & Spine Rehab in Rockville, Maryland: SSRCRF conducted research on Kinesio Tape techniques to alleviate lower back pain. We allowed our doctors to make the determination on how best to tape that particular day instead of requiring them to tape one way for every patient. We figured that not all patients are the same so why tape the same way?! This study was presented at the 2010 Kinesio Taping Association Symposium in Rome, Italy.
  2. The effects of a closed-chain, eccentric training program on hamstring injuries of a professional football cheerleading team: With hamstring injuries common among professional cheerleaders, SSRCRF set out to test the effectiveness of an eccentric, closed-chain hamstring exercise intervention. The Results: the exercise reduced hamstring injury-related pain among the sample group of professional football cheerleaders. This study was published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiologic Therapeutics in 2011.
  3. The Effects of a Home-Care Exercise Kit on Pain and Disability for the Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis: Plantar Fasciitis accounts for about 10% of runner-related injuries and 11-15% of all foot symptoms requiring professional care. SSRCRF evaluated a new home kit for the treatment of foot pain ? Foot Pain and Relief Kit from Hygenic, the makers of Thera-Band and Biofreeze. We were able to find that the Kit provided significantly greater functional improvements than the leading home exercise prescription used by orthopaedic surgeons.
