How To: Pain Free Holiday Travel

Got Holiday Travel Ahead of You?

We all know that feeling. Trying to unfold your limbs and uncrunch your spine after being crammed into a seat for hours during holiday travel – whether in a car, train, or plane. These seats usually don’t give us much space, and it can be difficult to find a comfortable and proper sitting position – not to mention the hours of holiday traffic causing delays up and down the east coast. This holiday season, be sure to follow our tips for pain-free holiday travel!

Easy Holiday Stretch Routine

Here’s a quick little stretch routine to get out the kinks and send you off to your holiday gatherings feeling good as new. You don’t need any equipment for these stretches, so you can do them anywhere in less than 5 minutes!

  • Thread the Needle
  • Cat Camel
  • Knee to Chest Stretch
  • Neck Movements

Two Extra Holiday Travel Tips

  • Stay Moving  This can be difficult especially if you’re stuck in the middle seat on a crowded plane. However, there’s always something you can do to keep your joints moving and circulation flowing. Walk up and down the aisle (if applicable), extend and flex your knees and elbows, and do wrist and ankle rotations (spell out the alphabet!). If you can do some of these en route, you’re likely to be in better shape when you arrive.
  • Hydrate  Hydration is always important, but especially when traveling. The lack of movement contributes to poor circulation and inflammation, plus all the yummy holiday food and drink creates a less than ideal situation for our bodies. Be sure to drink water to keep you feeling fresh!

Sometimes holiday travel can be stressful or troublesome. Keep these tips in mind the next time you find yourself on a long road trip or plane ride, whether that be during this holiday season or not. Doing the simple things like this can help you have a more enjoyable and pain free holiday!
