From June 22nd to the 25th, over 12,000 Athletic Training professionals attended the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) 67th Clinical Symposia & AT Expo in Baltimore, MD. The Clinical Symposia is offered a wide variety of learning opportunities, featured over 700 educational speakers. Through the series of programing our Clinical Research Foundation (SSRCRF) was able to share the results of our latest research with other health care professionals.
Jena Slaski, the Clinical Research Coordinator for SSRCRF and a Certified Athletic Trainer, presented the results of our latest study titled, Comparing Adhesion over Five Days between Three Brands of Elastic Therapeutic Tape during a thematic poster presentation. This study was conducted through our affiliation with Performance Health Scientific Advisory Committee.
A quick summary of the study and results:
-
Purpose to compare the adhesion of TheraBandTM Kinesiology Tape with either KT Tape or Kinesio Tex Gold FPTM under 25% elongation among healthy adults.
-
Randomly assigned to simultaneously receive application of 2 brands of de-identified tape.
-
Photos taken at 1 day, 3 days, and 5 days and assessed by 3 evaluators, blind to brand and day pictures were obtained. They rated the percent of tape still adhered to skin
-
Results:
-
TheraBandTM Kinesiology Tape adhered significantly greater at 3 and 5 days compared to KT Tape
-
Kinesio Tex Gold FPTM adhesion significantly declined from day 1 to day 3 and 5
-
The evidence supports health care providers recommending TheraBandTM Kinesiology Tape to their patients engaging in Elastic Therapeutic Tape therapy over a 5 day period
