Ever wonder about this new fad called cupping? It was especially popular during the Olympics.
Well, it actually isn’t new at all! We have been using cupping therapy as one of our treatment options for many years (it has actually been around for about 3,000 years thanks to Traditional Chinese Medicine).
Our very own Dr. Sarah Corcoran from the Rockville clinic sat down with one of our referring doctors to chat about cupping therapy for muscle recovery in one of our latest webinars. If you’ve ever wondered if cupping therapy is actually beneficial, watch this live demonstration in the full webinar below!
Cupping is often used by physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists for musculoskeletal issues. It is great for targeting?areas of muscle tightness.
How does cupping work?
Cupping therapy works by creating a vacuum. The vacuum creates negative pressure within the cup, which lifts the skin and the underlying tissues. This in turn does multiple things:
- It improves circulation to the area. The increased blood flow to the tissues helps to speed up the healing process.
- It increases lymph flow.
- It oxygenates the tissues.
- It stretches the tight fascia and musculature for improved mobility.
What are those dark circles on the skin?
